The 20 Largest Companies on Bursa Malaysia by Market Cap (October 2026)

· 9 min

Data as of 29 October 2026.

Market capitalisation is the one number that never needs a footnote: shares outstanding multiplied by price. It does not tell you whether a company is good, only how much the market currently pays for it. That is exactly why it makes a useful starting point — everything else is measured against the size of the thing you are buying.

The twenty companies below are the largest of the 150 Bursa Malaysia stocks Divvy tracks. Together they are worth RM 683.5 billion of the RM 807.0 billion in the dataset — 84.7% of the tracked market in twenty names. Nineteen of the twenty carry a declared dividend payment in the last twelve months.

Market cap and P/E as stored in the dataset. Yield is the pipeline's trailing figure; it is blank where the dataset holds no non-zero yield even though the company paid — a data gap, not a statement that it pays nothing. 12-mo DPS is the sum of declared amounts with an ex-date in the twelve months to 29 October 2026, which is why the two do not always reconcile: they are measured over different windows.

What the list actually shows

Banking is the centre of gravity. Seven of the twenty are banks — Maybank, Public Bank, CIMB, Hong Leong, RHB, AMMB and Alliance — and together they are RM 392.0 billion: 57.4% of everything on this list. There is no diversified way to own large-cap Malaysia that avoids them; they are the index.

Size and yield are not correlated. Maybank at RM 121.0 billion yields 5.91% and paid 64 sen across two payments; Public Bank at RM 91.8 billion yields 4.46%; Tenaga at RM 77.5 billion carries no feed yield at all but declared 53 sen. Meanwhile the smallest name on the list, Sunway REIT at RM 7.6 billion, yields 9.01% — the highest here. The order of the table by size tells you almost nothing about the order by income.

Fifteen of the twenty carry a score below 70. Divvy's 0-100 composite measures reported financials against the stock's own sector template, not the size of the company. Being enormous earns no points: Genting scores 31 and Sunway 62 while scoring 78 and 73 go to RHB and IOI Properties, both a fraction of their size.

Five names trade above 25× earnings — Gamuda at 25.9, TIME dotCom at 26.5, Frontken at 50, Inari Amertron at 57 and Chin Hin Group at 69. High multiples on a big company are the market pricing growth it has not yet reported; whether that is warranted is not something a score can answer.

How to read a market-cap ranking without being misled

A large cap is liquid, not safe. These twenty trade in volumes small caps cannot match, which matters if you need to exit. It says nothing about whether the price is right. The largest company on Bursa lost more than half its value in 1998 and again in 2008; size did not protect anyone who bought at the wrong price.

Market cap moves without any news. A 5% move in Maybank's share price is RM 6.0 billion of "value" created or destroyed in a day, against a dividend of 64 sen a share. If a ranking changes, check whether the business changed or only the price.

The concentration is the real finding. Twenty stocks holding 84% of the tracked market means a "diversified" Malaysian portfolio of thirty names is very likely a bet on these twenty plus ten small caps. That is not a flaw in the dataset; it is the shape of Bursa Malaysia.

Dividend yield on a large cap is a slower signal. These are not companies that will double their payout next year. What they offer is a declared, repeated distribution — and the number to watch is whether the payment is maintained, not whether the yield looks high this month.
